Inge Meysel: The mother of the nation” is 115 years old!
On May 30th, Inge Meysel, one of the best -known German actresses of the 20th century, marks the 115th birthday of Inge Meysel. On the occasion of this anniversary, the NDR plans to repeat the popular family series "The Incorrect", in which Meysel embodied the role of the combative mother Käthe Scholz. The broadcast starts on May 25, 2023 at 12:25 p.m. on free TV. This special occasion is of particular importance, since the series has not only entertained generations of spectators since its first appearance in May 1965, but also founded Meysel's reputation as the "mother of the nation". TVSerien.de reported that the series was broadcast until 1971 on the occasion of the Mother's Day and was available at the time with film lengths between 80 and 109 minutes.
"The incorrigible" tells the history of the Scholz family, led by father Kurt, played by Joseph Offenbach. In addition to Käthe, there are three children Doris, Lore and Rudi. Rudi is active as a football professional, while Doris is in an unfortunate marriage and Lore is also faced with her own challenges. In the first episode on May 25, the focus is on football, which brings unexpected consequences in the form of a traffic accident. Daughter Doris expects her first child, which triggers additional tensions within the family. In the following episode on June 1st, the family continues to fight with their problems, and Grandma Köpcke, played by Agnes Windeck, moves in. This family, with all their typical and atypical problems, not only reflects the social changes, but also Meysel's highly valued acting achievements.
Inge Meysel's life and career
Inge Meysel was born on May 30, 1910 in Rixdorf. Her mother was a Danish and her father of German Jew. She grew up in Berlin before she made her debut at the Theater in Zwickau in 1930 and quickly became a sought -after star in the theater landscape. As ndr.de, Meysel had to accept a ban on appearance during the Nazi era. After the war, however, it went uphill for her, among other things, she appeared at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg and quickly became an important figure on German television and theater.
MEYSEL was not only known for her acting talents, but also for her unshakable humor and her direct way. She received numerous awards in her career, including several Ottos and Bambis, and was honored for her work with the golden camera and the German television award. There is also a remarkable anecdote from her career: in 1978 she was the plaintiff in a sexism process against the well-known magazine "Stern", which consolidated her status as feminist icon.

Inge Meysel died on July 10, 2004 at the age of 94 in Seevetal. She played her last role in police call 110 and set a last, remarkable accent in her extensive career, which included more than 100 television roles. Even after her death, her inheritance stays alive. Her unconventional nature and engagement in political discussions made her a versatile personality that had an effect far beyond the acting world. She left a deep impression in German television history as well as plaques that remind of her life and its achievements, as the one in Berlin-Schöneberg in 2014.
