New life for Mülheim's city center: parkour and model garden started!

The Mülheim city center advisory board met on March 6, 2025 for the first time this year and decided to promote important projects from the Bürgersmithebudget. A total of two projects have been selected to support both the sporting and the ecological area.

The first project is the "Gripjam" parkour campaign, which is planned for April 26, 2025 on the Ruhr promenade at the elevator to the cycle fast path. This event is intended to attract parkour enthusiasts and interested citizens who can learn and carry out movements under expert guidance. The aim of the event is to motivate people to move and at the same time to raise awareness of the city's lesser -known places. In addition to leading workshops, live music performances will also contribute to entertainment.

ecological initiatives

The second funded project is the model garden of the Biological Station western Ruhr area e.V. on the residential gardens of Uhlandstrasse. The focus is on the importance of green and fallow land for species protection. The creation of a lounge area with seating and a barefoot path is planned to give the citizens the opportunity to deal with nature and at the same time find a space of calm.

In addition, the Mülheim tourist association receives 50 percent promotion of around 12,700 euros for lighting installation at the fountain at the intersection of Eppinghofer Straße / Dickswall. This measure is intended to highlight the "Regenbaum-Platz" and will be implemented in the coming months.

submissions and funding opportunities

Citizens have the opportunity to submit their own city design projects by the end of April 2025. The funding for these projects is between 100 and 5,000 euros and are available by mid -October 2025. Applications for financial support must be made this year to promote the projects in the city.

The decisions of the inner city council not only reflect the commitment of the population, but also the approach of actively shaping urban development through civil work and projects. Such initiatives are particularly valuable because they are supposed to strengthen the sense of community and improve the quality of life in Mülheim an der Ruhr. Further opportunities for participating in urban projects will continue to be promoted in order to actively involve the citizens and to incorporate their ideas into Mülheim's development.
