Tamino, who fell in love with Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, has to pass various exams that put his confidentiality, steadfastness and courage to test. The music combines elements of the serious and comic opera, including the famous arias of the queen of the night and the catchy melodies of Papageno. The premiere took place on September 30, 1791 in the Freihaustheater on the Wieden in Vienna and soon enjoyed great popularity.
