Horse market and family day: Bottrop celebrates great on Mother's Day!

On May 11, 2025, an important event took place in Bottrop, which attracted numerous people to the city. The horse market and a Sunday open to sales attracted thousands of visitors on this Mother's Day. The beautiful weather contributed significantly to the high number of visitors and created a festive atmosphere in the city center.

The horse market took place on the church square of St. Cyriakus. Here the spectators were able to marvel at an impressive selection of horses. The children in particular got their money's worth because they had the opportunity to stroke the horses and experience up close. The city of Bottrop organized numerous hands -on activities that were aimed primarily at young visitors. One of the attractions was a smithy in which the children could try out their manual skills on the metal.

flea market and open shops

The Poststraße also turned into a colorful flea market where horse utensils were offered. This offered visitors an opportunity to find real bargains and to browse the variety of accessories offered. The Sunday open to sales made a direct connection to the horse market. Between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., retailers in Bottrop also opened their doors to offer customers a special shopping experience.

A total of three open Sundays are planned in Bottrop for 2025. The next will take place on June 15, 2025 on the occasion of the city festival and on September 28, 2025 as part of the Michaelism market. On these days the shops will also be open from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

cultural highlights of the region

Sundays that are open are not only an integral part of the event calendar in Bottrop. Similar events also take place in other cities. For example, Bad Mergentheim organizes grocer markets with open Sundays, as has recently been reported. These markets go back to history and tradition, which reach the 14th century. Market feeders present a variety of goods and offer visitors a comprehensive market experience.

The events in Bottrop and other cities clearly show how closely cultural traditions are linked to modern shopping experiences. The combination of festivities and shops ensures a more attractive city center that attracts both locals and tourists.
