The future of hospital in the Westerwald: Investments secure care!

The Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Health Clemens Hoch has vehemently spoken out for the promotion of hospital locations in Hachenburg and churches. According to rhein-zeitung.de , the country will support considerable investments in the two hospitals. The Westerwaldkreis currently bears costs as a result of a change of carrier at the hospital in Hachenburg. In contrast, negotiations on the situation of the hospital in churches in the neighboring district of Altenkirchen have not yet been completed.

Hoch has also confirmed that necessary investments in hospitals are promoted, which strengthens hope for improving medical care. A persistent focus is on the construction of the Westerwald Hospital in Müschenbach, which will be larger than originally planned.

New Westerwald Hospital in Müschenbach

The new Westerwald Hospital should include up to 400 beds, which represents a significant increase compared to the previous plans. The originally intended number of 260 beds was revised after a round table in Mainz, in which both Minister Hoch and District Administrator Peter Enders took part. The background to these decisions is the problems related to the closure of the Altenkirchen hospital through the German Red Cross (DRK).

In the district committee Altenkirchen, despite the planning, there were emotional discussions about the renovation of the DRK Hospital into a regional health center. Enders expressed disappointed with the decision to capture the new building in Müschenbach, and urgently called for a clear perspective for medical care in the Altenkirchen district.

However,

Minister Hoch sees inpatient care in the Altenkirchen region as secure, but expects further concretizations and offers support. The district of Altenkirchen is planning measures to improve medical care independently, including through the establishment of an emergency starting point.

Financing the hospital projects

The financing of the new building of the Westerwald Hospital is secured, as the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Health and the DRK-Bergersgesellschaft Südwest confirm. The responsible institutions, the Ministry of Science and Health (MWG) as well as the State Office for Social Affairs, Youth and Care (LSJV), are significantly involved in the financing of the investment costs. According to lsjv.rlp.de , the LSJV approves a flat grant for plank torch houses and is responsible for reviewing rejections in emergency patients.

The new Westerwald Hospital will be operational at the earliest in seven years at the earliest. This is not surprising in view of the complexity of the plans. In view of the current developments, it remains to be seen which further steps will follow to improve medical care in the region.
