A historical treasure: Chapel in Bad Kreuznach is looking for new heirs!
On March 13, 2025, the city of Bad Kreuznach advertised a historical hereditary law for the Puricelli chapel, an important burial site in the neo-Gothic style, which has been used as such since 1894. This chapel, which was once owned by the Puricelli family, is not only an architectural jewel, but also a significant part of local history. Until 1998 the room was used for burials until the right of use was abandoned at the end of 2019 and the building went into the possession of the city. Now courts are to be awarded for future use, whereby the annual hereditary construction interest is only a symbolic amount of 1 euro.
Interested parties can apply for the heritage law through the municipal cemetery administration. It offers you an exclusive right of use for the chapel as a burial site, with space for six coffins in the crypt. This challenge also means an obligation to maintain the chapel in line with the monument and the maintenance of the outdoor facilities. If desired, the green space maintenance can be taken over by the cemetery administration. The award is awarded by the cemetery's work committee after examining the applications and concepts. The Puricelli chapel, which was built in the neo-Gothic style from 1887 to 1888, is characterized by its three-aisled pillar hall, the narrow aisle. The Tympanon on the main portal, which shows the enthroned mother of the Jesus, is particularly impressive, while the founder Franziska Puricelli is depicted together with her sister Eugénie. The interior is richly decorated, with one of the most beautiful mosaic floors in the region and a middle aisle that is decorated with an artistic rose ornament. The windows in the choir room also impress: they tell the stories of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ and go on a personal touch by being mapped the founder and her husband.
Under the choir room is the crypt of Franziska Puricelli, which gives the chapel a deeper historical and personal meaning. The high altar, which was designed by architect Johann Heinrich Wiethase, is also rich in relief forms and paintings that come from the Cologne painter Alexius Kleinentz. This style is based on the great masters of the 15th century and complements the neo -Gothic organ, which comes from the workshop of the organ builder Stockhausen and was built in 1890. This organ is equipped with eight registers and crowns the high -quality, three -part gallery of the chapel.
The continued cultural relevance of the Puricelli chapel is underlined by the city of Bad Kreuznach and the local citizens. With the tender of the heritage law for future use, this historical site should not only be preserved, but continues to be filled with life, so that the rich legacy of the chapel will also be accessible to future generations. This commitment to the preservation of monuments is supported by the city with the obligation to maintain proper maintenance, which contributes to preserving the cultural identity of the region.
