Choral association Mayen celebrates 75 years with an unforgettable anniversary!

On October 5, 2024, the Mayen district choir association celebrated its 75th anniversary. The celebrations took place in the Saffig meeting place and were under the motto "Singing connects". The association was founded in 1949 after the Second World War to promote choral music and community singing. In the meantime, he has developed from a few memberships to over 30 choir associations with more than 40 choirs that include men, women, mixed, mixed and child and youth choirs.

At the anniversary celebration, numerous volunteers, honorary members, representatives of friendly choir associations, political representatives and the local mayor Simone Röttgen were present. Among the guests of honor were Jens Firmenich, Etienne Emard, Dr. Björn Rodday and Karl Wolff. In his speech, Hans-Willi Fell, spokesman for the association management, looked back on the 75-year history of the association and also spoke about the negative effects of corona pandemic on the choir.

Jens companyich delivered the greetings from District Administrator Dr. Juicy and praised the activities of the KCV Mayen. Etienne Emard spoke about the cultural funding of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, while Dr. Björn Rodday emphasized the importance of music and culture for the development of children and adolescents. Karl Wolff presented a certificate of honor from the Rhineland-Palatinate Choir Association. The celebration was musically framed by the duo "Con Moto" with Sylvia Mel-Andrè and Johannes Andrè.

The KCV Mayen comprises over 1,000 active in 29 choir clubs with 45 choirs and extends over the regions of Andernach, Mayen and the municipalities of Maifeld, Mendig, Pellenz and Vorentifel. The history of the association began on September 25, 1949 in the Hotel "Sterngarten" in Mayen. Despite the difficult framework, the association looks optimistically into the future and encouraged those present to listen to the choirs and actively shape the future of choral music. The evening ended with sociable get-together for dishes and drinks, such as Wochenspiegellive.de

Another source emphasizes that many choirs from the region were already created in the second half of the 19th century with predominantly male participation. The oldest club in the association, the male choir Plaidt, was founded in 1853. Dr. Rodday also called for a firm anchoring of cultural education in public budgets. The KCV Mayen thus shows that choral music in the region has a long tradition and will continue to play a significant role in the future, as Blick-aktuell.de reported.
