Saxony: Opera size at the end of wisdom - come to the stage with us!

The opera "Widukind", composed by Thomas Lotz with a libretto by Birgit Kronshage, is performed again and takes the audience on a trip to the history of Saxony. The first performance took place in 2022 and the opera deals with the critical historical moments on the threshold of submission of the Saxons under Charlemagne and the decision -making process for Christianization. In this context, history asks the prize in human life for cultural, religious and territorial autonomy. As Westfalen Blatt reports a central role in which the actors appear as a people-in some cases Supporter Charles of the Great.

For the upcoming performances, men's voices, especially tenors and basses, are still sought. The opera choir, led by Christiane Schmidt, is made up of vocally trained and committed lay people. Interested parties should bring safe singing technology and be ready to prepare their voice independently. "Theater experience is not necessary, but it is important to have pleasure and courage to dare something new," continues Schmidt. Notes and practice audios are made available to the choir singers.

One of the soloists is an internationally occupied ensemble, which underlines the cultural diversity of the project. The background of the opera is a time of radical rethinking, in which a personal defeat changes into a victory of wisdom about fear and violence, as the Widukind-Museum in closer reports: Widuk-museum-enger.de . .

The importance of Saxony in history

Saxony, as a historically independent German sub-state, has been a cultural and science center in Europe for centuries. His geographical location and the innovative strength of its citizens led to significant advances in various science areas. As described by kulturland.sachsen.de , Saxony was not only known for the first German locomotive and the first steamship, but also for significant inventions that participate in the economic upswing in Europe.

However, National Socialism brought intolerance and misanthropy, which significantly impaired the exchange with other regions. The division of Saxony after the foundation of the GDR also led to an abrupt end of over a thousand years of state history. It was only on October 3, 1990 that the Free State of Saxony was rebuilt in its current form and a chapter of history was re -opened.

The opera "Widukind" is therefore not only an artistic, but also a historical event that is to be understood in the context of these cultural and political developments. The performances therefore offer not only entertainment, but also an examination of one's own identity and history.
