Düsseldorf on master course: overwhelming victory against Baden-Baden!

The Düsseldorf Chess Club (DSK) set an impressive sign in the chess bundesliga at the weekend. In the top duel against OSG Baden-Baden, the team triumphed with a clear 5.5: 2.5. Despite the fact that Düsseldorf competed against the defending champion, they have established themselves as a serious championship favorite. Even if the Düsseldorf replaced replacement replacement and ten players of the top 12 were missing, the DSK was not intimidated. They had previously won against Deizisau, although this victory failed with a narrow 4.5: 3.5

It was particularly striking that the Baden-Badeners had a elo overhang on all boards, which makes the team performance of the DSK even more remarkable. In the current season there are still crucial games for the Düsseldorf chess club, including encounters against Viernheim and Solingen. These last games will decisively influence the direction of the championship.

Next games and table position

The next challenges for Düsseldorf include encounters against Bavaria and Deggendorf in Munich. At the moment, the DSK shows itself in a solid shape with four wins and four draws, which leads to 3rd place in the table. The team has one game less than the two leading teams, but stays on a promising course.
The chess league itself consists of 16 teams that compete against each other in seven double rounds. Counting is done by board points, with four teams descending at the end of the season.

In the meantime, it does not look quite as rosy for the defending champion, SV Viernheim. Viernheim had an unfortunate start of the season and lost against Hamburg, indicating that the pressure on the players will increase. They also left a point against Werder Bremen before they were able to win in round five in a duel against Baden-Baden. The upcoming home game against Heimbach-Weis-Neuwied will be of great importance for Viernheim. These opponents are tied with Dresden and Bad Mergentheim.

special players and team structure

The DSK has made a name for itself not only through its achievements, but also through the promising youth promotion in Düsseldorf. It offers numerous youth teams and training offers in which over 70 children and young people are active. The youth training takes place on Fridays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while the adults come together from 7:00 p.m. Particularly noteworthy is the Indian grand master Gukesh Dommaraju, which is one of the stars of the DSK. His replacement Ian Nepomnjaschi showed average performance in the game against Hamburger SK and only achieved a draw against Hamburg Grand Master Fredrik Svane.

The Hamburgers, who only achieved a total of only two board points in the past round, also play as part of these competitions. They had to give up the DSK and are currently under pressure. Hamburg will compete against Baden-Baden, while Hamburgers play against Deizisau on Sunday. The development of the team is being pursued with excitement, especially the role of Ediz Gürel. The talented player from Turkey is number eight on the U20 world rankings and plays an important role for the Kirchweye association, which counts 14 out of 18 reported players from the Balkans.

The entire 2024/2025 season promises to be exciting, especially for the Düsseldorf chess club, which is well on the way to establishing itself in the highest league in Germany and possibly to fight the championship.
