Reports from the New York Times portray Musk as someone who goes well beyond what was previously known. Musk himself defends himself against these accusations and explains on his platform X that he does not consume drugs and that the newspaper is simply lying. However, he adds that he has tried to get out of regular “dark mental holes” through ketamine, which he was prescribed to treat depression.

A few weeks ago it was in the headlines that Musk was said to have consumed substantial amounts of drugs during the 2024 US election campaign. This is what anonymous sources from his environment have said Mercury confirmed. Although Musk admits to occasionally taking ketamine, he emphasizes that it was always under medical supervision. However, critical reports also state that Musk travels with a "daily medication box" that includes about 20 pills, raising concerns about his health.

The rumors about his drug use also cast a shadow over his professional involvements, particularly at Tesla and SpaceX, where troubling reports about Musk's mental health have surfaced in the past. The question of whether drug consumption could have had an influence on his leadership skills does not remain unanswered. Musk's biographer was critical of his health and the toxic family situation, which apparently also has an impact on his well-being.

The New York Times could not find any evidence of drug use during Musk's advisory work for Trump in their research. Trump himself said that he knew nothing about the allegations and that he thought Musk was a “fantastic guy”.
